One Year Later

One year and a couple months, anyway. Last year right around this time I took photos of our new house. At the time, we had been in it for about a month or two, and we didn’t even have anything hanging on the walls yet. We weren’t completely unpacked and I hid off sections of rooms and only showed the glory of perfect unclutteredness in the new house.

Now here we are, one year later, older, wiser, and much more cluttered. That nursery has actually been used, cause yeah, we had a baby (though a year ago, the nursery wasn’t remotely finished).

I thought it would be fun to show you how our lives have changed in just one short year.

First up, the entryway. One year ago, the entry way had some prettier flowers in it (oops, haven’t switched that out in a while), but there wasn’t an entryway table yet. I got our piece at Ballard Designs.

The dining room wasn’t remotely done one year ago. It was pretty much full of boxes. Since my grandma passed later last year though, we wanted to display her glassware appropriately and purchased a china cabinet. We also swapped out the curtains with the ones in the living room to give it a more formal look.

Moving into the kitchen. This is pretty similar, except that we now have baby bottle brush and drying mat out regularly. And a highchair at the table. Still loving this table since it sits at counter top height rather than bar height. Seems to be a perfect balance, though when Jameson starts being able to sit on his own we may need to move to the dining room for a while.

Into the living room. I feel like this, aside from the dining room and nursery, has some of the most dramatic changes. We swapped curtains with the dining room (all inherited, along with the rugs in the kitchen and entryway, from the old owners). We also removed the coffee table to make it feel more spacious. We changed the table lamps, and we purchased new couches which we just got a weekend or two ago, and not to mention the baby toys!

Can you tell yet that I’m also editing on a totally different computer? All my new photos are cooler in color. It drives me crazy but maybe I’ll have the time to properly fix it one of these days…

Upstairs now! The “reading nook” is still there, but less used by me. It’s now one of Jameson’s hang out spots in the morning when we’re getting ready for work. The bookshelf is there, but along the other wall, while we moved an old bedside table next to the chair.

And our bedroom. Another dramatic change (at least for me) is the removal of the dog bed from the front. It’s now on Brian’s side of the bed. We also got a new cover and window valances from Kohl’s on the cheeeeap. The ugly “painting” over the bed that looks off-center from the bed is killing me slowly though.

The office, and the new Mac. For full effect, I’m showing the picture here with the most wall space showing because this is “Brian’s” room and he had full reign. Every inch is covered in music and other art prints.

Last but not least, the nursery which was an empty room with a couple boxes is now inhabited by a tiny human.

We’ve had a blast of a year, and are looking forward to many more in this house. I can’t wait to see how things evolve over time.

P.S. For more pictures, check this out. You can see before and afters, plus our old house and some random bonus pictures that happened to pull up when I searched the word “house”.
