Daddy Day

Last year, taking photos for Dad’s Day was much, much easier. He sat nice, even through 3 wardrobe and set changes. I had some funny outtakes, but it was nothing compared to this year.

I’m not joking when I say I barely had 3 usable photos (let alone, vertical ones to use in the frame we already purchased). The entire shoot went something like this:

He immediately threw every letter to the ground. I had mere moments to capture, unless he was completely distracted by a window or bubbles. Phew, I can’t wait until next year, next year he’ll sit still, right??

Along with this photo session, Brian got a memory box from Paper Coterie to store his ticket stubs, bumper stickers, and cards in. He had them in a plastic bag before, so this is quite a step up. There are photos of he and I, Jameson and Sasha on the box. It’s the 4th one I’ve ordered from them; I am very happy with the quality of the memory boxes!

He also got new fancy sunglasses. He’s now ready to drive in California! We’re very excited for our upcoming vacation.

We also enjoyed the gift of family on Father’s Day; Brian’s parents came over and sister and her boyfriend with his daughter who we got to meet for the very first time.

He may not look excited here, but I promise you that Aunt Melissa taught him how to put his legs up so she can push him around. He loves it!

While I was upstairs, wishing my own dad a very happy Father’s Day (he spent the day fixing their swing set in preparation for a visit with Jameson–and my own sister, haha), anyway meanwhile I hear loud laughter followed by wailing from Jameson.

Up comes Aunt Melissa, rescuing Jameson from whatever is happening downstairs. (Anyone watch How I Met Your Mother? I felt like The Blitz). Apparently, Sasha was dropping gobs of drool on Jameson’s head and arm, prompting the laughter which was loud enough to frighten him.

Grandma came over then and all was well!

Jameson’s current favorite toy is an empty bubble container. This weekend, he learned how to screw on and off the lid (as long as mom or dad doesn’t screw it on too tight!). He’s obsessed with it, and leaves the clear bubble stick everywhere for us to hunt down.

Our current new favorite game is “falling asleep” on the stairs. Grandma encouraged it, and it’s pretty hilarious until we are midway up the stairs going to bed and he decides he wants to play the game. (Okay, even then, it’s still pretty funny)

For appetizers, Brian (yes, he made his own Father’s Day dinner, but I did make him a fantastic breakfast casserole!) made bruschetta.

The main course was ribs hot dog for Jameson, potatoes and salad. We were excited to try Jameson at the dinner table for the first time, aside from our one disastrous attempt to eat at Red Robin. He did really well, and I think he enjoyed the novelty of it.

We did it again last night, and it seemed to encourage some better eating habits, at least for now.

It’s always a pleasure to eat in the dining room with family. And somehow the table always seems to get filled up with stuff within hours after the event. I don’t understand how that happens.

Jameson danced away in the living room to some Pink Floyd (dads were proud) and then it was time for dessert!

For dessert, berries (on top of angel food cake for the adults). Jameson enjoyed the berries a lot. He even signed “Thank You” a couple times. Why, you’re welcome, Jameson! We love you, and you’re one of the main reasons we get to celebrate!

Happy Father’s Day to all the best dads I know!

Memorial Day & Work Updates

Goodness I’m a little behind, aren’t I? Work has been very hectic this week, I have barely had time to do posts here or get ready at home because this weekend is Emma’s wedding!!

  • My friend and co-worker, Lauren (who’s baby shower I attended not too long ago!) had her babies on Memorial Day, at an unexpectedly early 32 weeks.
  • Currently, I’m a “one man show” at work and doing trying to do the work formerly done by 3 marketing people and scoped out to be the job of 5.
  • We also have a new intern at work, which is great and hard at the same time (I want to do right by said intern and provide her a learning experience here).
  • Recently, our corporate global president resigned, so there is some corporate upheaval, though everyone is staying very positive.
  • Agency and vendor changes this past month have left me running around, dealing with contracts and budgets and all kinds of new experiences.

But first of all, who replaced my baby and replaced him with a toddler? I feel like I noticed the transition happening in manner and new skills the past couple months, but all of sudden it’s his looks too!

Speaking of skills, Jameson is starting to get interested in buckles. He spent nearly our entire walk one night leaned over trying to buckle up the other seat.

No success yet, but I have never seen him so dedicated.

Memorial Day was so very hot and muggy, reaching the nineties. In Ohio humidity, that definitely calls for a drink or two for the parents.

Jameson and Lily hung out outside for a while, sharing popsicles and lunch. Jameson wanted to steal her cheese.

When they were bored of the water table (and the pool I kept dumping Jameson into but he didn’t quite appreciate), we went over to Lily’s to play with bubbles!

Jameson hasn’t mastered blowing the bubbles, he just takes the wand in and out. Lily, however, has been able to make a few bubbles all by herself!

Lily will be two in just a month and a half or so. And the summer, barely started, seems halfway over already.

P.S. For anyone curious how Lauren’s babies are doing, Morgan and Madelyn will be in the NICU for about 3-1/2 more weeks probably. They are working on developing big, strong lungs!

Happy Mother’s Day

For Mother’s Day, Brian made me breakfast and dinnerandtook care of the dishes. It was wonderful. He made my favorite meal (a tortellini with white wine sauce and mushrooms) and surprised me with a superb dessert — homemade creme brulee! Jameson even slept in for me both days until 8. It’s like he knew!

On my very first Mother’s Day, Emma came to visit and we escaped from the house for a bit (so nice, and so needed). This year Brian and I celebrated together with Jameson, and it was perfect and just as needed.

Since our blank wall is now covered in frames, we had to find another corner to take photos this Mother’s Day. I think we did a good job. And Brian took some really great photos!

Jameson likes to say “Cheese” now on occasion. We said it together as Brian took some photos. Except his sounded more like eeeeeeeeeeeeeeezze. And when I looked at the photos later, I could tell which ones he did that in; his grin is funny looking, haha

It wasn’t long before Jameson got silly. He likes to fling himself back or forward and out of my arms, always trusting that I won’t let him fall.

Except last night I almost did, carrying him and his bottle up the stairs to bed. He’s lucky I held onto him until we reached the top as he slowly slipped out of my arms upside down. He thought it was hilarious.

He knows his (and my) eyes and nose. He might know mouth too, or just like to stick his fingers in there.

I’m such a lucky mom.

P.S. Our dear great-grandpa passed away yesterday evening. I wish Jameson would have had the opportunity to spend more time with him, but he was 91 (91!) and lived a long full life. While we celebrate that, we mourn his death.

Easter Holiday, grand finale

I’m not sure where this week went. It’s already Friday, and I’m still talking about Easter. Thank goodness there was something fun to talk about this week, or you probably would’ve gotten a few woe-is-me-first-world type problem posts. It was kind of a depressing work week, but it has had a upswing here at the end.

So we left off reading books, eating dinner, and going to bed. And overnight, the Easter bunny arrived! Easter bunny didn’t go overboard too much, but the contents barely fit in the basket, hence the covering of lovely bunny basket’s face.

That is isn’t the first thing Jameson found though. He discovered an Easter egg first, all by himself. Easter bunny placed six small Easter eggs filled with baby-friendly teddy grahams and gold fish.

Jameson discovered the first in the corner of the stairs. Luckily, I already had my camera but even still I barely got it running in time to capture his find. And then I let it run for like 10 minutes, and couldn’t bring myself to edit the video down.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1p34n34t8M]

Here are the highlights:

  • finds first egg, 0:00
  • sits down to eat, 0:50
  • sits down to eat again, 1:35
  • sits down to eat again, 1:55
  • discovers big (empty fun decor) egg, 2:07
  • discovers basket, 2:50
  • plays with phone up to his ear (so cute, he does this all the time now with everything) 3:20
  • sneezes a load of snot out, 3:40
  • finds second egg, 7:20
  • finds third egg, 8:10

Jameson found all his eggs. They were all in spots he usually plays with, so it was natural for him to discover them. He may have ruined his breakfast a little bit on goldfish and teddy grahams!

Inside one of the extra large eggs was a surprise. They were all empty but one, which had peeps in it!

He wasn’t a huge fan of the peeps. I’ve been eating them all instead.

Then it was time for church! Jameson got all dressed up, but the shirt I bought for him was way too big, he was swimming in it! So we swapped it out for another shirt I had for him all ready. (Sorry for making you iron the other shirt, mom haha)

Jameson’s very into hairbrushes, particularly dad’s. He likes to take Brian’s hairbrush in the morning and brush his hair.

At church, we got to see another brand new baby which was fun, and Jameson was in the childcare room. He was exhausted, but didn’t fall asleep until the end. Which meant we had a lot of trouble getting him down for a nap later and eventually had grandma go rescue him (because we as parents can’t be seen as the rescuers, right?)

Easter supper was ham, green bean casserole, broccoli, potatoes, salad and rolls (and the classic butter lamp my mom brought up). We were excited to have both sides of the family together for the meal, which happens very rarely.

Sasha was all prepared to gather up Jameson’s food, as usual.

Sasha enjoyed Easter as well. The End.

Easter Holiday, part 1

Saturday my family came up to visit. Jameson’s grandma and grandpa and Aunt Holly were very excited to see him! It was nice outside, so we spent some time outdoors.

It was nice to see my family again. Jameson is a better walker now than he was a month ago when we last saw them. In fact, his daycare daily review sheet said just yesterday:

“Jameson’s favorite activity today was running back and forth in the classroom while screaming.”

As usual, we helped Jameson pick some “flowers”. He wanted to put them back for a little bit though. I can almost see his little mind working the puzzle. But they came from here…

Jameson is really showing expression in the wagon now, I think he’s gotten used to it. He just loves it. Brian, Aunt Holly and Grandpa all pulled him along the wagon.

Aunt Holly loves Sasha (and Sasha loves anyone who will give her pets)

Jameson was very excited to get gifts again (he is the first and only grandchild on both sides of the family)! Little did he know that Sunday would bring more as well.

Grandma selected a dog bag, which was cute, but Aunt Holly’s packaging took the cake. It was sparkly.

We’re book lovers at heart on my side of the family. I’m pretty sure Jameson knew this was a book too because he sat on Grandma’s lap with it still wrapped up.

Jameson has been very into books lately. He’ll go and get them out of his book basket downstairs and bring them to us to read to him. If we’re on the floor, he’ll feel free to climb into anyone’s lap for a story. Just this week, we read a book about puppies which he loves and I love because it doesn’t have flaps to rip off, it slides (our friends had this same book), and he signed “eat” and “sleep” while we read what puppies love to do. It was so fun to see him understand.

For dinner, we had burgers and pasta salad with squash. A true summer style meal, even though it was cool outside. Jameson ate some pasta salad, but showed little interest in much else.

He’s definitely been having eating issues recently that we are working through. We try to offer him a mix of pasta, meat and vegetables for dinner since he gets a lot of fruit at daycare. But often have been following it up with a baby food pouch which he thinks are fun or some cheese.

The day went so quickly and overnight, the Easter bunny arrived!

Good Friday & The Wardrobe

Good Friday, I had off work but Brian didn’t. That may have been a first, so I’ll mark that down in the history books blog. So I opted to send Jameson to daycare and spend the day on myself.

First, I changed into my jeans to drop Jameson off at daycare, and came home swapping them out for lounge pants. I bought a book and started reading. Next, I ate brunch. I had a leftover wrap from Thursday and a whole box of mac ‘n cheese at 10:30.

My friend Emma and fiance Joe stopped by at 11 on her way to Detroit visiting family. Then I read some more.

Then I went to go see Titanic in 3D with sister-in-law Melissa. I had a box of snow caps.

Then I sort of felt depressed (it’s a tough movie to watch after having children, I think), so I picked up Jameson right after it was over at 5:15 or so. I was catching a cold, so when Brian’s parents stopped over later to drop off some pre-Easter gifts, I napped on the couch.

What a fabulous day. 🙂

But you’re probably not here to hear about me, right? I did take some photos sometime in between napping.

So, Jameson got some clothes from grandma and grandpa. Adorable, cute clothes. But Jameson was very interested in this other box from grandma and grandpa (Grandma said excuse the girl wrapping paper, haha. Oh well, I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it or you’d never have noticed) and it’s fabulous bow.

What could possible have this super fun pull on it?

Jameson’s first lawn mower!

I can’t wait to see Jameson walking his mower out in the grass this summer.

But, right now, it’s still inside because of the crazy weather we’ve been having.

(This is what I woke up to this morning)

Yep, straight out of the Wardrobe.

(The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe if you’re confused)

Irish Twins

(No, not in that sense of the phrase)

Jameson and Jonathan dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day in matching polo shirts! It was too cute. We got together with JP and Lisa on Sunday afternoon for an Irish dinner (corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and root vegetables). We were also excited to see their brand new wood floors!

There is always something new happening with babies. They are growing so quickly! Jonathan is walking now, and he had another surprise for us.

Look at that curly hair! Jonathan’s hair suddenly started turning curly in the back. It’s adorable. I wish Jameson’s had turned out curly, but alas, I think he has his father’s hair.

At first, they didn’t play too much together.

But after a nice walk in the wagon they were good buddies.

Jameson had a solemn face most of the ride. It’s funny because I know he loves riding in the wagon. He insists on getting in it every evening, but he always has a serious face while riding.

When we got back, it was almost time for dinner. Jameson discovered Jonathan’s train which he loved.

Jameson also has decided he would like to walk up and down stairs now (with mom or dad’s help, of course, which he is actually permitting us to do which is a first!). At Jonathan’s house, they have a step down living room, and Jameson figured out how to do it himself.

The personality of these kids is just wonderful. Jonathan played peekaboo with his blanket, and Jameson ran away with it.

It’s finally dinner time!

Jameson loves it when I give him whole food, he thinks it’s a special treat. So I gave him a soft carrot or two, not cut up.

Then we stripped the boys down before dessert! We had our homemade gingerbread, while Jameson and Jonathan had jello.

Jonathan couldn’t get it fast enough, so he ducked down and tried to scoop it up with his mouth.

A pair of babies thus stripped down is the perfect opportunity for some more ridiculous photo opportunities.

They loved the fireplace! Whenever Jonathan would go sit down on the fireplace, Jameson would come walking as fast as he could to get in on the action.

Jameson went and crawled under the table, laid flat, pretending he was asleep for a second. He cracks me up! Speaking of, his favorite word from me right now is Ewwww. Whenever I say it, he cracks up. It’s hilarious! It’s made changing time much more fun when I can collapse him with giggles at a word. Oh, I have to make a face with it too, wrinkling my nose.

At the end of the evening, we tried to give them a bath together. There’s only a short window of time you can do that. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Jameson seemed concerned with the bubble bath (he’d never had one before).

Oh well! It was worth a shot. We calmed him down with a few stories. Jameson crawled in my lap and we read a couple books.

The End. 🙂

Going French

On St. Patrick’s Day, Brian and I decided to go French.

It was a busy day overall! Saturday morning, I attacked Jameson with a camera first thing. We still had to take 15 month photos (barely a day late so that is okay).

He was ornery about the photos, as per usual now, but I did get a great photo of him stacking a block on top of his 15 months!

Then, I headed to sign language class with Jameson (we have just one more), while Brian went grocery shopping. At home, Jameson and I played around outside with Kelly and Lily while Brian got ready for the day and started cooking. We were planning a brunch with the neighbors!

When Curtis arrived back from golfing, Lily was already eating nicely.

And… Jameson had just thrown a temper tantrum (likely related to exhaustion and teething), and so he was already in the crib crying.

Jameson didn’t want to eat any of the fruit, or even the waffles and sausage. He was clearly ready for a nap. After about 10 minutes of crying, I went up and swayed the poor little guy to sleep.

After brunch, while Jameson snoozed away, Brian and I made our homemade gingerbread in preparation for Sunday. It has a stout in the recipe, so I figured that was close enough to a St. Patrick’s Day dessert, right?!

We also de-tagged a bunch of new 18 month clothes for him which is fun and sad all at the same time. It’s like he gets a new wardrobe though! On Sunday, I cleared out a tote full of clothes that no longer fit him (Brian was happy since he usually has to dress him and kept trying things that didn’t fit him anymore, oops!)

The nap was maybe an hour and a half, so shortly thereafter, we dressed Jameson in green and prepared him to go to grandma and grandpa’s house for the NIGHT!

And then Brian and I got dressed up for dinner. French dinner on an Irish holiday. That’s quite alright, since our Irish celebration was on Sunday anyway, and I’ve been waiting to go back to Chez Francois for a couple years. I love this restaurant.

It’s right by the lake, so a bit of  a drive for us, but well worth it.

Brian had lobster bisque and a free range chicken with a side of seafood, and I had mushroom soup and veal (don’t judge, I never get it) with seafood on top and asparagus. It was divine, but the best part was dessert, which always comes paired with a dessert wine. Brian got the raspberry flambeau and I got chocolate ganache tart.

We watched Bad Teacher that evening (a stupidly funny movie). It was a superb date night!

But the best part?

Sleeping in on Sunday.

Easter Basket Crafting

Now that Valentine’s is over, I can safely  move on to Easter.

I mean… well, full disclosure, I have had the materials for Jameson’s Easter basket since this time last year. It’s been sitting in the craft room, under the table, just waiting for a night like Friday night.

Friday night, my eyes were really dry from taking the dry-out-your-sinuses medication (the good stuff), so I didn’t want to watch much TV or read. What better thing to do than whip out my new (year old never used) glue gun and create Jameson’s Easter basket?

I had even pre-printed the directions from Factory Direct Craft (my favorite go-to online craft store).

Before I begin, I should mention that the materials I used were hard to find last year. Apparently they were discontinuing jumbo loopy chenille. Last year when I heard it was being discontinued I actually bought enough to do two, maybe even three, Easter baskets. Ahem. But lucky for you, apparently some colors are still in stock this year whaddayaknow.

My Easter basket is extra large, so I used some extra of the materials. Here’s how big my basket is:

That’s the same basket, last year, with Jameson inside it. He wouldn’t fit this year though, so I guess I didn’t have an excuse to wait on this project any longer.

Here’s my materials:

basket
2 hanks (6 yards to a hank) of green jumbo loopy chenille
1 hank of white regular size loopy chenille
1 – 4″ styrofoam ball (after you add the chenille on, it looks like it’s 6″ big)
1 – 1″ white pom pom
2 – big googly eyes
1 – craft stick (aka popsicle stick)
floral u pins (for added security with the glue gun)
hot glue gun

Step 1: Your popsicle stick is going to be the base:

You need to secure that popsicle stick with glue. You’ll be using a lot of glue.

Step 2: Then you stick the ball on top of the stick. And add a bit more glue.

Step 3: Now you get to start wrapping the head. I started with some glue and a floral pin to keep it in place, and just added glue periodically as I wrapped from the bottom up.

Step 4: Once I reached the top, I didn’t cut the chenille. I decided to just use take another floral pin there and go ahead and make my ears (less glue needed then, right?)

I eye-balled the size I wanted the ears, about 6″ long or so. I cut the chenille and glued it down.

Step 5: Then I cut about 10″ or so of the loopy chenille twice, for two cheeks (aka bunny’s muzzle). I made my cheeks a bit bigger after I did the initial 6″ recommended by the directions on Factory Direct Craft because it didn’t seem proportionate to my large basket.

Lots of glue.

Step 6: It’s up to you, but here’s where I went ahead and glued the eyes and nose on, just to make sure everything looked good size-wise.

Step 7: Then it’s time to do the arms. I did my arms with the second hank of green chenille in one go. I wrapped around each handle twice, then secured it with what else – glue – at the back, with the popsicle stick and the bottom of the styrofoam ball.

Step 8: Don’t forget the feet! I did the feet in one swoop as well. In my opinion, the less cutting, the more secure it is, right?

The only way the feet are secured with with a lot of glue, so I tried to glue at major points/seams in the basket where it was structurally more sturdy. I wasn’t too concerned with amounts that way, I just started wrapping until one foot looked big enough, then looped over to do the other foot.

Step 9: The only thing left at this point, you may notice, is the white of the ears and the tail. I used my while chenille and cut two pieces so they’d fit inside the ears. Since I had regular sized chenille instead of jumbo, I doubled the length and folded it in half. You wouldn’t need to do that with jumbo size.

Step 10: For the tail, just take some more white chenille and roll it in a ball. And glue!

You’re all done!

Optional Step 11: You can add ribbon for a bow or whiskers or whatever you like. My mom made a version (much smaller) than this for my Easter basket that I had when I was growing up. Mine was white in the palms of it’s feet, a white muzzle instead of colored, whiskers, and googly eyes with eye lashes.

Correction from my mom: My mom didn’t make my Easter basket (cause I’m not the favorite haha). My grandpa’s cousin made the basket (and also made my mother’s manger scene).

This project was super easy, and I can’t believe I waited a year to do it. I only got hot glue on my fingers twice when doing the white chenille inside the ears.

For Valentine’s Day, Something Pink

Jameson had a great Valentine’s Day on Monday. Well, the evening anyway. He was fussy at daycare, but he got to see grandma in the evening for a couple gifts. Lucky little man, he finally got to open some of his own presents!

Oh, and he’s in his jail time outfit. This is our spare daycare outfit. It’s always kind of fun to walk in that day and say “Oh! Jameson’s in his jail time outfit! He must have been messy today!”

Jameson just loves his new duck (and his new outfits too, of course). He loves to put his face into soft things and lay on them like pillows.

That night, he also decided to start “walking” again, or at least taking steps. He’s also making strides in standing up on his own from his feet (rather than just stepping away from something). He occasionally does a weird crawl on the palms of his hands and feet. Today I think he finally did it on his own, but I missed it!

Now you might be wondering at this point, what else Jameson got. Something pink.

Pink EYE!

On Tuesday he came home from daycare with goopy eyes and one that looked a little swollen. I was certain he had pink eye, and the doctor confirmed it the following morning (Bacterial Conjunctivitis is our technical name). Jameson at this point isn’t contagious anymore since he’s now been on antibiotics and eye drops for 24 hours, but we had to miss daycare yesterday and today.

In addition, Jameson has a cold and a bad ear infection (which is possibly the same one from before). So he is on stronger antibiotics this time around which will hopefully knock it out. He already seems like he is feeling better today, and the eyes are clearing up. Yesterday was a bit of a nightmare, except for our doctors visit where Jameson was so worn out he actually laid on my shoulder for that entire half hour we were there. Small blessings!

Even though most of our day looked like this today:

He is still clearly sick, with irritated skin under his eyes, snot coming out of his nose, and extra naps (at 5:30 pm, he is taking his second nap!)

I did try and get some 14 month photos today, but since I didn’t have Brian to help me, they ended up like this (aka dangerous). I will try again later tonight or maybe even this weekend.
